Starting from Scratch

STARTING FROM SCRATCH (Online edition)

From Monday the 9th to Wednesday the 11th of November.

Assembly room of Antiguo Hospital de Santa María La Rica and online.

However much some might force the point, crisis does not mean opportunity. We do however agree that there are new ways of approaching our long-running workshops in view of the new situation. Three seminars that participants can follow live online, the theoretical parts of which will be included in the audiovisual archive of the festival so they can be consulted any time. We are also making the most of the situation by inviting overseas speakers such as the creator, writer and illustrator Puño, from Madrid and now located in Medellín (Colombia), to learn more about new cultural practices such as mediation and to take full advantage of our mobile devices to depict our world always from a personal and irreverent standpoint.

Registrations are free and limited at cero@alcine.org although some of the sessions may be followed on streaming with no audience limit.

MOBILE GUERRILLA JOURNALISM. Online and in-person seminar with HJ Darger Aimed especially at: Students of Cinema, Journalism, Audiovisual Communication and Cultural Management. Any young people interested in the organisation and communication of cultural activities. Prior experience is not necessary.

Free registration at: cero@alcine.org (limited places)

This three-session workshop came about thanks to alzine_LAB, the working group self-organised by young people that was held at ALCINE49. By expanding the session of Blanca Martínez ‘HJ Darger’ devoted to the Communication of Unusual Events, over three sessions we will learn how to get the most from our mobile devices in relation to transmitting stories and network management across various video apps; how to make a subversive impact on the streaming spaces now so commonplace in training centres, and the type of digital events that await us in the new normal and what opportunities they offer us.

Blanca Martínez ‘HJ Darger’

Journalist and researcher. Founder of the magazine Visual404 together with Deborah García and Sofía Machain and the Feminist Ontologies freethinking collective together with Elena Castro Córdoba and Laura Tabarés. She is responsible for visuals, networks and communication of projects in the audiovisual avant-garde such as El Bloque TV and Radio Primavera Sound.

CULTURAL MEDIATION AND CINEMA: ALCINE, framework and context.

Online seminar with Arantza Martínez and Susana Galarreta

What is cultural mediation? What is its current and potential relationship with cinema? How do we relate cultural mediation to a Festival such as ALCINE? And to its history, production, programming, the current pandemic, or the persons inhabiting the festival?

Cultural mediation is a practice developed outside museums, in spaces such as film festivals, that may cause puzzlement in their participants. This workshop will tackle the mediation concept applied to cinematography, and make a practical and collective investigation into and reflection on the desires, feelings and points of convergence and divergence between the definition, design, production and programming of a film festival and the persons inhabiting it. ALCINE will be the framework and key context for reflections on questions such as these. The journey will be divided into three sessions: the first will be presentational, in which we will come into contact with values, principles, agents and projects of reference. The next two sessions will allow us to apply a series of practical individual and collective tools to create a collective reflection.

Arantza Martínez and Susana Galarreta

Both work in the field of cultural communication, management, production and mediation. They have been involved in institutions and spaces such as the San Sebastián Film Festival, DocumentaMadrid, Museo Reina Sofía and film and education projects such as Las Espigadores and A Bao A Qu. They have also worked promoting cultural mediation and education at festivals such as Directed By Women Spain. The fusion and enrichment of all these areas and functions has brought them together to offer content devised from a multi-disciplinary and transversal standpoint. They are both members of the Madrid Association of Cultural Mediators (AMECUM).

DRAWING WITH THE CAMERA. A FILM STORY WITH… PUÑO
Online seminar with Puño.

In the wake of the iconoclastic proposals of Velasco Broca or Visual 404, we are resuming this season devoted to highly personal visions of the history of film from unique viewpoints. In this case from Medellín (Colombia) the creator, educator and illustrator Puño is here to discuss the work of Raymond Depardon with the editing, of Wim Wenders with the colour, of Lucrecia Martel with the sound, and Akira Kurosawa with the movement. On the frontier between documentary and fiction. And how creativity functions in our brain and the stimulus of restrictions.
On the basis of all these ideas, the seminar will conclude with an invitation to participate in an exercise. A short documentary micro-poem practice, which students can easily undertake at home and join together in the last session.

David Peña Toribio “Puño”
Puño illustrates, writes, creates stories, photos… and he studied cinema! He is currently living in Colombia, where he combines his production with online publication and education, and is especially well known for his talk at MAD 2011 or his talks on the Domestika creative platform. He won the International Award of Ilustración Fundación SM (2009) for his book ¡Ñam! And the Barco de Vapor award (2018) for La niña invisible.
